This song is probably the most theological piece on the whole website. I mean, I mention God in each verse, and three times in the refrain! I’m worn out.
As I explore more about this Being many of us call God, I keep coming back to the thought that “God” is too vast and expansive to be contained even in the word “God”. But we need these anchors, symbols, hooks, to hang our belief on, to solidify our relationship, to give some form to the formless. I keep waffling between something grand and great and so far beyond us, to a closer-in being who calls to us. Doesn’t find us a parking space, mind you, but still, in some unknowable way, knows us.
These song lyrics are posted as a PDF document. Three familiar tunes are suggested, each of which will give a different feel to the song.
The refrain and first verse are shown here:
Refrain (begin with the refrain): Who is this God who calls to us? A God who’s here, within our world. Not far removed or up above A God of laughter, joy and love. 1. Enormous love, can’t be caged in, or claimed by only one belief Who speaks to us and all of life through faith and works and aspen leaf.
I’m still working on all this theology. Enjoy the song!
