Annual Meeting Song

  • by

My church has not just one, but two (count ‘em, two!) Annual Meetings. Actually, one is called the Semi-Annual Meeting, but it’s the same thing.

Lest you think we’re gluttons for punishment, rest assured we do have a good time. At one of the meetings, we hand out awards, often accompanied by gales of laughter and raucous applause. One year, I decided to write a song for our January version, which deals with the budget and other such things. Someone gave it the title “Oh God, Another Meeting” which I’ve ignored, but which, admittedly, does make it more versatile.

Anyway, here is my contribution to the genre of “Songs About Meetings”. It is to the tune of “O God Our Help in Ages Past”, and is to be sung with gusto and not much reverence. Enjoy!

Annual Meeting Song
To the tune of “O God, Our Help In Ages Past”
Allyson Sawtell

O God, it’s time to meet again
And vote on all this stuff.
To balance budgets and to plan,
It really is quite tough!

But hey, we’re Church – we’ll work, have fun;
We’ll argue, vote, and pray.
We’ll listen, love, and act in hope;
And not be here all day!

And all we do, our work and plans
Will be for so much more.
To build the Church and world anew
That’s what our church is for!

Oh yes, and have some fun as well
Rejoice along the way
And even in this meeting here
We’ll still take time to play!

Amen!
